Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of 16-year-old midfielder David Eze, who has joined the club’s academy after leaving Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Eze is a central midfielder who spent several years developing within Manchester City’s academy before making the move across the city to Old Trafford. Manchester United announced the transfer on September 26, welcoming the teenager to its youth setup.
The youngster has also represented England at youth level. England Football listed Eze in its Under-16 squads during the 2025-26 season, including the team selected for international fixtures in Türkiye and Florida.
Reports from Nigerian football outlets identify Eze as having Nigerian heritage, while his playing nationality is England. AllNigeriaSoccer described him as an English-Nigerian youngster, while Sports247 Nigeria reported him as Nigerian-born.
Eze's move follows his departure from Manchester City after an eight-year spell in the club's academy. Before the transfer was officially confirmed, he announced his decision to leave City and thanked coaches and staff who had contributed to his development.
The teenager joins Manchester United at a stage when the club continues to recruit young players for its academy. His arrival also follows the recent signing of another Manchester City academy player, midfielder Karim Cassim, as United strengthens its youth ranks.
At 16, Eze remains an academy prospect and has yet to make a senior Premier League appearance. His immediate focus will be on continuing his development within Manchester United's youth system and progressing through the club's pathway toward senior football.
The signing represents another cross-city move between the academies of Manchester's two Premier League clubs, with Eze now beginning the next stage of his football development at Manchester United.
