President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigerians have “finished making sacrifices” for the country to become great again, while urging citizens to remain hopeful about Nigeria’s future.

Tinubu made the remarks in a message delivered by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, September 25, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The President said Nigeria was on the right path, adding that there was “light at the end of the tunnel.” He also said peace and development were returning to the country and urged Nigerians not to lose hope.

According to the message, Tinubu’s administration is focused on addressing what he described as the cumulative mistakes and missed opportunities of previous administrations. He urged citizens to consider the government’s ongoing efforts in that context.

“My message to the country on behalf of the Mr President, the Senate President and all members of the National Assembly is that the citizens should not lose hope,” Abbas said while conveying the President’s message.

Tinubu also appealed to Nigerians to give his administration another opportunity to complete its programmes and reforms. “We should give this government more opportunity for it to come back and finish the good work,” he said.

The statement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to intensify. The appeal for another opportunity therefore carries a political dimension, alongside Tinubu’s broader message about economic recovery, peace and development.

The special prayer brought together senior government officials, including the Deputy Senate President, state governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and military chiefs.
