Sola Allyson Celebrates 55th Birthday at 55

The celebrated Nigerian singer and songwriter marks her 55th birthday as fans reflect on a career defined by distinctive vocals, Yoruba-language songwriting and the enduring success of Eji Owuro.

Sola Allyson marks her 55th birthday on September 24, 2026.

Nigerian singer and songwriter Sola Allyson-Obaniyi is celebrating her 55th birthday today, September 24, 2026, as admirers across Nigeria and beyond celebrate her contribution to the country's music scene.

Allyson, who became widely known following the release of her career-defining work Eji Owuro in 2003, has maintained a distinctive musical identity built around soulful vocals, Yoruba-language expression and deeply personal songwriting.

The Eji Owuro project served as the soundtrack to a Yoruba film of the same title and played a major role in bringing Allyson into the Nigerian music mainstream. In a 2019 interview with The PUNCH, she described the album as a career-defining work that marked an important stage in her musical journey.

Before becoming a household name, Allyson worked as a backup singer and developed her craft through years of musical experience and training. Her subsequent body of work has included albums such as Gbéjé F'órí, Ire, Im'oore, Adun, Ope, Imúse and Ìrì.

Her music has often explored spirituality, personal experiences, relationships and human emotions. Although she is frequently described publicly as a gospel artiste, Allyson clarified in a 2025 interview that she personally identifies simply as a singer and does not describe her music as gospel.

That distinction has become part of Allyson's broader artistic identity. She has consistently emphasised authenticity and personal conviction in her songwriting rather than creating music simply to fit a particular genre or label.

Over the years, her influence has extended beyond recording and performance. Allyson has also been involved in mentoring and encouraging young people, while her music has continued to connect with audiences across generations.

Her career has also remained active in 2026. She is listed among the artistes scheduled to perform at the 10th edition of the Luli Concert in Lagos this year.

As Sola Allyson marks 55, her birthday provides another opportunity to celebrate a Nigerian artiste whose voice, songwriting and distinctive approach to music have remained recognisable for more than two decades.

Happy 55th birthday to Sola Allyson.
